Why Square Footage Is So Hard to Picture

A listing that says “120 square feet” means almost nothing until you see it. Is that a big bedroom or a small one? (It is a standard bedroom.) The problem is that area grows in two dimensions at once: a 10×12 ft room is 120 sq ft, but a 12×14 ft room jumps to 168 sq ft.
