Why Train Your Estimation Skills?
Studies show most people are bad at judging distances beyond 20 feet, but the skill is trainable. Each quiz question teaches one anchor measurement: a school bus is 45 feet, a basketball court is 94 feet, a football field is 300 feet. Memorize a handful of anchors and you can estimate almost any distance by comparing it to the nearest one. That is the same technique surveyors and photographers use in the field.
8 Anchor Measurements Worth Memorizing
| Anchor | Measurement | Remember it as |

| Walking step | 2.5 ft | 40 steps = 100 ft |
| Sedan car | 15 ft | 7 cars = ~100 ft |
| School bus | 45 ft | 2 buses = 90 ft |
| Semi-trailer | 53 ft | 2 trailers = 106 ft |
| Basketball court | 94 ft | Just under 100 ft |
| Blue whale | ~100 ft | The classic 100 ft |
| Football field | 300 ft | The classic 300 ft |
| Walking speed | 4.4 ft/sec | 100 ft = 23 seconds |
